Empire State South, Atlanta ga

Completed in 2010, Empire State South is a restaurant in Midtown, Atlanta, Georgia, owned by Chef Hugh Acheson.  Lisa Ellis Design was tasked by Acheson and developer Jamestown Properties to transform a former conference center into a warm, atmospheric, and thriving culinary space to house the restaurant.  Specific areas of note are the front of house, including the bar, coffee shop, and dining rooms.  Materials used in the project include salvaged heart pine & board and batten, pecky cypress, and Georgia granite.  Her team purchased a 19th century building that was set for demolition, and salvaged heart pine to use for the restaurant’s floors and walls.  Custom lighting can be found throughout the space.

The Florence, Savannah ga

The Florence in Savannah was a restaurant by the Hugh Acheson/Jamestown Properties partnership. A historic warehouse conversion, Lisa Ellis Design provided the interior design for the restaurant’s front of house areas, which included the dining room and show kitchen, featuring a wood fire pizza oven.  To add character and a nod to the history of the property, Lisa Ellis Design sourced many reclaimed materials from historic buildings, such as giant marble slabs harvested from the exterior of a bank, which were used to cover two bars in the expo kitchen, as well as a backsplash.
